Cymbal News - September 2017

Music at our three public schools is off to an incredible start this year! The Highlander Pep Band is gearing up for performances at home football & soccer games (including tonight’s Friday football game), and BTW our high school music enrollment has doubled this year!!  An exclusive performance by virtuoso violinist Elizabeth Pitcairn with the fabled “Red Mendelsohhn Stradivarious Violin” as featured in the outtakes of the movie “The Red Violin” will be at IES to perform for elementary students.  Middle School Honor Band Audition dates have been announced, and the IMS Music in the Parks overnight trip for music students is BACK!!

Also, don’t forget to join CYMBAL this year – a new membership form attached. Thank you for keeping the music playing at all 3 Incline public schools!

Sept. 8 Virtuoso Violinist Elizabeth Pitcairn & Pianist Donna Axton Perform 10am-10:45am at IES Multi Purpose room. Parents are welcome to attend! Elizabeth Pitcairn is a guest artist of the TOCCATA Tahoe Symphony Orchestra “9/11 Memorial Series” and brought to you by CYMBAL!

Sept. 11 After School Strings Class Info Meeting in IES music room, 3:15pm-4pm. All strings students interested in additional instruction is invited to bring a parent to this meeting.

Sept. 12 Back to School Night at IES, 5pm

Nov 29 WCSD Middle School Honor Band Auditions at Sparks Middle School. See Mr. Mueller for audition materials. Concert at Pioneer Center on Wed. Feb. 14th, 6:30pm

April 20-21 Music in the Parks Band Trip Coming soon: Otis Spunkmeyer Cookie Dough Fundraiser to raise funds for the band trip! Parents interested in chaperoning this music trip please contact Mr. Mueller.

All Incline Middle School students are encouraged to maintain a yearly SmartMusic Student Subscription. This is a fantastic way to learn new music & improve your musicianship throughout the school year!

Sept. 23                     IVGID Oktoberfest! IHS Jazz Band plays for Incline’s Octoberfest at Diamond Peak

Nov 3-4                     Once Upon a Mattress Fall Musical

• Music classes at IHS count as arts & humanities graduation requirement!
• All music classes can be taken as honors classes
• IHS is now a chapter of the Tri-M Music Honor Society
• Attending live concerts fulfills a Tri-M Music Honor Society requirement

Music in Our Community – Don’t Miss it!
• Incline has a new music school! “Village Music” offers classes for toddlers through adults on all instruments, voice, children’s choir, group rock band classes  and Toddler Tuesdays! More info at:   Drop-ins welcome on Toddler Tuesday & all students are invited to join the North Tahoe Children’s Choir! Call 775-298-2550 for more info.
Sept. 23                     Oktoberfest! 12pm-6pm IVGID’s free all-ages community event featuring the North Lake Tahoe Children’s Choir & the IHS Jazz Combo & cast members of “Once Upon a Mattress” will take place at the Diamond Peak.
Sept.12                      9/11 Memorial Concert  7pm at Cornerstone Church in Incline Village, featuring violinist Elizabeth Pitcairn with the Tahoe Symphony Orchestra & Mozart Requiem performed by the Tahoe Symphony Chorus. Students 19 & under are ALWAYS FREE at TOCCATA Concerts!
