TOCCATA Presents 9/11 Memorial Concert Series September 11 – 17
Series Features Returning Guest Artist Elizabeth Pitcairn with the legendary Red Stradivarius Violin and concludes with the Beethoven 9th Symphony
TOCCATA Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus will finalize their 2011 Tahoe “Big Blue” Summer MusicFest with a series which commemorates the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy. The series features famed violinist Elizabeth Pitcairn performing Mozart’s Concerto for Violin #3 in G major on the legendary Red Stradivarius Violin. The concert will conclude with Beethoven’s masterpiece Symphony #9 in D minor with soloists Katharine DeBoer, Joy Strotz, and Olivia Hakel, sopranos; Brian McNiff, tenor; Stuart Duke, baritone; and features the Tahoe Symphony Orchestra Chorus. Maestro James Rawie, Toccata’s founder and director, will conduct all performances. Due to the length of the concert, movement #3 of the symphony will be omitted.
The concerts are:
Sunday, September 11 at 3:30pm at St. Theresa Catholic Church in South Lake Tahoe
Tuesday, September 13 at 7:30pm at St. Thomas Aquinas Cathedral in Reno
Friday, September 16 at 7:00pm at Trinity Episcopal Church in Reno
Saturday, September 17 at 3:00pm at the North Tahoe Events Center in Kings Beach
Two special events will take place in elegant private homes as fundraisers for the concert series and for the new Tahoe Symphony Youth Orchestra. The first one is Thursday, September 8 at 5:00pm in Incline Village and the second one is Saturday, September 10 at 3:00pm in Glenshire/Truckee. Admission to the fundraisers is $100 per person. Wine and cheese is included with special entertainment. Singers Joy Strotz and Stuart Duke will perform, accompanied by Donna Axton on piano. Ms. Pitcairn will perform selections from Mozart’s Violin Concerto in G major. TOCCATA String Quartette will also perform. For information call 787-602-2121.
TICKETS are $30 adults, $25 seniors, (62 and up), and $5 students. Preferred seating is available for $40 and can be reserved online. Children under 12 enter free with a paying adult. Tickets can be purchased in advance by credit card at www.ToccataTahoe.com or at the door by cash or check. Doors open thirty minutes prior to the concert.
