The fifth annual Sierra Nevada College science expo will attempt to bring science to life for 400 elementary school children this week.
The event will examine the science of energy and matter in a child-friendly way. The students will see the program during the day on Thursday and Friday, said Heather Segale, U.C. Davis education and outreach coordinator at Sierra Nevada College.
This year's expo will be open to the public Friday, March 19, from 4 to 7 p.m. It features 20 different hands-on experiments and investigations for the participants.
“This year there is a focus on dynamics of energy and matter,” Segale said.
The program is a collaboration between Lake Tahoe School and the U.C. Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center. Segale said the programming for the event was organized largely by Lake Tahoe School science teacher D.C. Larrabee, who Segale called “the world's greatest science teacher.”
“He's just amazing,” she said. “He just has a complete knowledge (of science).”
The program, Segale said, is designed for elementary-aged children and “curious adults.”
Admission to the Friday evening session of the expo is free and open to the public.
