Camp Skylandia

A tried and true summer tradition is Camp Skylandia. A summer day camp offered by the Tahoe City Public Utility District, Department of Parks and Recreation. Tahoe City has offered Camp Skylandia for more than 25 years, a day camp that runs eight weeks during the summer. Located in Skylandia Park, in Lake Forest just east of Tahoe City, right on the lake with a forest and a beautiful meadow for the playground.

Everyday offers arts and crafts, sports and games in a wonderful outdoor environment. Start off the day with a campfire circle, where all the campers and counselors sing and play games and do very silly skits to get to know each other. Then break off into groups according to ages which range from 3 years to 14 years of age.

  • Bambi Buckaroos: Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m., the ages are 3.5-5, this program includes mini-hikes, cooking, nature awareness, crafts, beach play, singing and fun.
  • Kinder Kamp: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-2 p.m., entering or continuing kindergarten. Camp includes: Recreational activities including hiking, swimming, nature exploration, crafts, beach play, singing, games and field trips.
  • Camp Skylandia: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m., grades 1-5. Large group games, arts and crafts, weekly field trips, beach time and creative weekly special events.
  • Counselor in Training Program, CIT: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m., grades 6-9. Designed for those campers who are interested in becoming Junior Counselors. They will help with the other counselors in assisting with games and arts and crafts. The CIT's also plan the special event on Friday.

Most of our counselors are returning campers and would love to share their fun experiences of fond childhood memories of Tahoe with other children. Sign up day is May 8, at Rideout Community Center, 780 Timberlane Lane, Tahoe City. Please call Rideout Community Center for more information (530) 583-3440 ext. 14 or visit www.tahoecitypud.org/parksrec.
