The evening will be filled with wonderful performances by the choir, orchestra, symphonic band and jazz band.  We invite everyone to attend this evening of entertainment and supporting our students.  Incline High School apologizes for the inconvenience and thanks you for your understanding.

Youth Backcountry Camps

This summer, the Tahoe Rim Trail Association in partnership with Sierra Nevada Journeys will be offering four sessions of our three-day, two-night Youth Backcountry Camps.  These camps are intended to engage high school youth in a true wilderness experience and a service learning project on the Tahoe Rim Trail.

The Youth Backcountry Camps provide a valuable wilderness experience to youth in the Lake Tahoe Basin and surrounding areas. These camps combine wilderness education, trail operations and maintenance, outdoor education, and Leave No Trace outdoor ethics, all while camping in the backcountry in a life-changing outdoor program. Participants learn valuable lessons and gain outdoor experiences that will help them to connect with the environment and infuse environmental stewardship for the future, allowing them to spread their new found knowledge and skills throughout their community.

The TRTA Youth Backcountry Camps engage young adults between the ages of 13-18 who love the outdoors and want to learn more about backpacking, trail operations, ecology and outdoor leadership skills in an advanced wilderness setting.

IB Expert, Dr. Chris, coming to Incline Village

Dr. Jerry Chris, renown as an expert in the study area of International Baccalaureate, will be coming to Incline Village.  On June 3, 5:30pm, in the theatre at Incline High School, Dr. Chris will discuss the IB program and what it would mean to the students of Incline Village.

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Program was established to provide an intellectually rigorous and academically demanding common curriculum for students in schools around the world; an "international passport" to higher education. Its strengths come from the best of many national educational systems.

What does the IB Program include?

The International Baccalaureate is a widely recognized, two-year comprehensive program encouraging critical thinking, research skills and service as part of the learning process.

  • It prepares students for post-secondary success at any university. Successful IB diploma candidates earn both the IB diploma and the TASIS high school diploma. To succeed in this program requires commitment, ability and interest. Students who have the motivation and self-discipline, and who are willing to devote the time necessary, will find the achievement of the IB diploma of great satisfaction.
  • It is designed to give students access to universities around the world. The rigor of the IB program is recognized by over 800 colleges in North America alone, and by many more in other areas of the world.
  • Participation in the program plays an important part in the admissions decisions made by universities, and success on IB exams is often rewarded with advanced credit and/or standing at the university level.

Jerry Chris, Ed.D has taught English, Humanities, and Theory of Knowledge in Southern California, specializing in the extremes of the student ability spectrum – the gifted and talented (GATE) as well as the reluctant and disadvantaged learners.  He has authored seven educational books and two novels.

He served as International Baccalaureate Coordinator at Mission Viejo High School, from 1985 until 2008. In 1991 he became the first president of the California International Baccalaureate Organization (CIBO), the prototype for all the sub-regional groups in I.B.  In 1998 he co-authored a senate bill which still provides funds for teacher training within the California I.B. organization. He also serves as an I.B. site visitor, evaluating I.B. school applicants, Theory of Knowledge workshop leader, training both new and experienced TOK teachers, TOK examiner, school exam inspector, and applicant school consultant.

He has presented workshops on a variety of topics including Socratic Seminar, brain compatible learning, differentiation, and critical thinking at teacher training institutes and schools throughout North America.

Among his many awards are three-time Mission Viejo teacher of the year, California – Orange Region (GATE) Teacher of the Year, Disney Creative Challenge County Teacher of the Year, and the Crystal Apple from NBC.  At the 2004 annual California Gifted Conference, he was given the “Award of Recognition” for a career of dedication to Gifted education.
